47a Manta - the fish markets

Our first stop was Tarqui Beach; this early in the morning, it is not
swimming that is the main focus but the local fisherman touting their catch
of the day. An array of fish, large and small, are displayed on whatever is
available - crates, tarps or just in the back of the ute. Masses of birds
circle above or take refuge on roofs and light poles waiting for the
opportunity to swoop down and peck at any morsel of the discarded fish guts
and gizzards. In the undercover section, the more delicate of seafood is
tastefully presented by stall holders to entice buyers to make their
purchases from them.
