30F Lisbon - the Alfama District

Weaving our way back towards our ship we travelled up secret elevators
hidden inside of buildings, taking us up to sweeping views of the city
saving our legs from the steep walks up the hills. We are now on the other
side of our valley looking down at the city in the opposite direction.

We were now in the colourful and oldest district of Lisbon called Alfama.
Although it seemed a poorer area, it had that bohemian, arty, colourful and
festive feel about it. Colourful buildings, painted murals and bunting hung
from one side to the other. Outside some of the homes were old photographs
that captured our interest. According to Syliva, these were photos of some
of the original dwellers, interesting and what a great reference point for
anyone in the future coming here to find their ancestral home.
