The River Lee runs through Cork and as you walk from the station you need to
cross one of its bridges to reach the city centre. You pass a mixture of
new and old buildings as you walk along its streets and laneways.
We stopped at the English market, which I have been told only sell produce
that is sourced locally. Fresh meats, fish and cheese, beautifully baked
breads and pastries, jams, spreads and wines, all available for tasting, it
was a culinary delight.
From there we made our way across a smaller river to the Saint Fin Barre
Cathedral. This church gets its Corks patron saint. As with all cathedrals
their grey exterior gives no clue to the beautiful stain glass windows that
line the walls and can only be appreciated from the inside.
