How can a place be so dramatic, rugged and still be described as peaceful.
yes just stop and stare at the scenery and to quote Michael Caton in The
Castle, "you can feel the serenity"
Today also gave us another opportunity to catch up with our English family,
and if any of you have followed my previous blogs, Vicki, Garry's niece has
always picked a port to fly and catch up with us. Vicki and her partner
Gary decided to combine their own holiday with ours here in Iceland..
Having done the Golden Circle last year, today's tour was discovering the
south coast. We were under the excellent guidance of Wally, whose full name
was totally unpronounceable. Some guides tend to talk endlessly with
information that goes in one ear and out another, but Wally told stories -
lots of stories and you couldn't help but listen, and usually these stories
gave you the information about what we were experiencing.
Our first stop was an impromptu one. Wally decided to ease us into today's
waterfalls by taking us to a small one along the way to wet our appetite.
The Urridufoss falls are destined for extinction as a proposed dam will stop
the water from flowing down this river.
Then it was on to the thundering Skogarfoss falls at Skogar. Walk as close
to the base as you want but beware of the spray that will drench you in no
time at all. A sunny day maybe, but it was overcast and cold, so getting
wet was not pleasant. For the energetic ones, there is also the option of
climbing a lot of stairs to capture a view from the top.
