From the dock it is a short 10 - 15 min walk into town, or you can catch the
free big yellow school bus which drops you off just in front of City Hall.
Being early starters, a small local market was setting up just as we
arrived, selling all kinds of products and crafts. Later when we returned
there was entertainment with a very Irish feel in both the music and the
twang in their accents.
A lovely wilderness surrounds Corner Brook so there are many hikes on offer
for visitors and locals to enjoy. Known as the Steam Trail Network, you
have a choice of walks of varying levels. We chose the easy going Glynmill
Inn Pond trail, which basically circumnavigates the picturesque pond.
Birds, ducks and wonderful reflections call this pond home. At one end you
cross a bridge where you can see the stream where the water cascades down
filling the pond and at the other end where a small dam holds the majority
of water, but that which escapes streams straight down into the bay. To
help maintain the park a tribute program is in place and along the banks
small plaques in memory of those who have passed, mark trees and benches
donated by family and friends.
