37b What a great day in Port Saguenay
We then visited a replica of a coureur-de-bois summer camp (Indian camp) where we were met by a First Nations couple of Inuit and Mohawk descent. Maꙶꙶꙶïka Mitch welcomed and blessed each of us to the beat of her husband Mitch's drum. They talked about their lifestyle, how they hunt and fish. They showed us their tools and the furs of the different animals they trap to survive. They did speak a little English, but most of the narration was done in French and although our guide Vicky had a little trouble keeping up with the translation, she did do a great job. We tried on their clothes, ate their delicious cake (a sweet bread with cranberries dipped in maple syrup), and drank their tea. It was a wonderful, interesting and fun session. Just as we were blessed when we arrived the process was repeated as we left.
