One thing we did do when we arrived in the morning was book ourselves on a
one-hour boat tour to experience the icebergs floating in the adjoining bay.
Six of us, a driver and guide squeezed into the cabin of this small boat.
The boat was already on a longer tour out to the glacier (damn that would
have been good), so we had to wait till 3pm before we could go. Watching
the weather close in we were worried about a deja vue of yesterday, but once
on that boat no one was getting us off.
We sped out to the bergs; you don't realise how large they are until you are
up close and personal. So close that not only could you see how tall they
were, but you could see them continue endlessly below the water. They say
only 1/6 of an iceberg is above the water. Smash into the berg we go. close
enough that we are encouraged to reach out and touch it. Scooping some ice
out of the water, it was broken up and used in the refreshments that we were
offered.
It was short and sweet and at least we got to do a trip to the bergs.
